11.00 - 11.45 : Introduction to the survey of europeen importers of Cameroonian certified timber 

A presentation will be made of the recent survey of importers to highlight the Cameroonian companies involved. In the ASP-Green Pact framework.

12.00 - 13.00 : Inauguration of the ATIBT booth

The debates will cover in 2024 global issues in the tropical timber sector. This year, the ATIBT stand will focus on Cameroon, through the ASP Green Deal Cameroon project financed by the European Union, with the presence of representatives from the Cameroon Ministry of Forests and Fauna. The timber market in Republic of Congo will also be discussed. 

A presentation of the ATIBT's activities in Mexico will be given by Secretary of Economic Development of the State of Quintana Roo. The round table sessions, which will take place over 3 days, will be officially launched with speeches by the Director of Forests of Congo's Minister of Forest Economy, MINFOF representatives and the ASP Cameroon project manager.

Dr. Nurudeen Iddrisu Director of ITTO's trade and industry division will also be present.

14.00 - 14.45 : Table talk "Timber processing in Cameroon, issues and challenges"

MINFOF representatives will give a presentation on the issues and challenges involved in further processing timber in Cameroon in connection with the ban of log exports in the countries of the CEMAC + DRC zone. Sharing experiences with representatives from other African countries (including the Republic of Congo, which will be represented) will enrich the discussions.

Thais Linhares, from the FAO, will be promoting the July ministerial event at the FAO-Rome and the GROW THE SOLUTION campaign recently signed up to by all the organisations in the FAO's Collaborative Partnership of Forests (CPF).

16.00 - 17.00 : Table talk "Renewing forest management plans in tropical countries"

As the first management plans implemented in the early 2000s come to an end, it is essential to think about future management and to reflect on the successes and obstacles of the past 25 years. The ATIBT intends to work in close collaboration with the experts in its network, forestry administrations, forestry companies and other stakeholders.

It is recognised that certified forestry companies provide environmental and social services. Consideration needs to be given to valuing them, given their importance and the need to support the work carried out by these companies and the forest concession model.

15.30 - 16.30 : Timber markets in the Republic of Congo

Ms Paulette Ebina, Director of Forestry at the Republic of Congo's Ministry of Forest Economy, will present the current state of the country's domestic timber market and the prospects for improving the supply of sustainably managed timber to this market, while speeding up local processing. There will be an opportunity for discussion with the audience. There will also be an opportunity to share experiences on domestic timber market management issues between countries in the region.

Franck Monthe, coordinator of the CITES action plan at the ATIBT, will present the CITES issues specific to timber products from Cameroon.

Selva Maya, community forest management and the European market. How can the EUDR challenge be met? The EU-funded Madera Cero Deforestacion project will help to meet the challenge.

The lesser known timber species of the Selva Maya are essential for the development of these communities.

14.00 - 17.00 : Conservation timber Forum

A gathering of global practitioners and innovators on the future of wood as a forest conservation tool.
Pilot Projects and Cities4Forests are hosting an intensive ideation session on the concept of "Conservation Timber" as a crucial category within wood production and procurement. The event  aims to explore the significance and implications of Conservation Timber in addressing pressing needs and stakeholder perspectives across the value system, from forest owners to consumers and end users.
