The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is specialized agency of the United Nations that leads international efforts to de feat hunger. With over 194 member states, FAO works in over 130 countries worldwide.

Since its creation in 1945, FAO has been helping nations to manage their forests sustainably. The FAO has accompanied ATIBT since ATIBT’s beginnings in 1951. In line with the FAO’s three main objectives -to contribute to the eradication of hunger, food insecurity and malnutrition; to eliminate poverty and promote social and economic progress for all; and to sustainably manage and use natural resources, including land, water, air, the climate and genetic resources-, FAO pays equal attention to social, economic and environmental objectives so that present generations are able to benefit from forest resources while preserving them for future generations.
