Indonesia’s Minister of Environment and Forestry announces the continuation of the SVLK (Sistem Verifikasi Legalitas Kayu/Timber Legality Assurance System)
Last February, as part of the management of the COVID-19 crisis, the Indonesian Minister of Trade announced a new regulation, removing the requirement for producers and the timber products industry to provide legality assurance documents for exported products.
Indonesian Minister of Environment and Forestry Siti Nurbaya sent a letter (21 April) to President Joko Widodo assuring him, inter alia, that SVLK continues to be applied as a mandatory condition for the export of forest industry products.
The Minister of Trade will shortly write a letter to the EU informing it of the suspension and revision of its recent regulations.
This review will be carried out with the participation of the Minister of Environment and Forestry.
“The main thing is Indonesia still wants to maintain SVLK as one of our major investments for the long-term interests of sustainable forestry businesses, as well as for the benefit of Indonesia’s forests,” Minister Nurbaya asserted.
