For several years now, the ATIBT, through its representative office in Brazzaville, has been mobilizing the Republic of Congo's private sector to become more involved in the responsible, inclusive and transparent management of forest resources.

At the heart of Central Africa, the Republic of Congo is home to the world's second largest tropical forest, a verdant natural forest that constitutes a veritable ecological treasure trove and a factor in responsible economic growth. Although it contributes to preserving and enhancing the forest cover, the Congolese timber industry is often the subject of prejudice due to a lack of awareness of the efforts made to achieve sustainable forest management. Aware of the positive environmental and socio-economic impact of the private forestry sector, and the need for support to better structure and promote it, the European Union Delegation of Brazzaville has mobilized ATIBT to develop and implement the Support to the Private sector (Appui au Secteur Privé - ASP) Congo project.

The aim is to highlight the social, economic and environmental contributions of the Congolese forestry-wood industry. In particular, this involves involving trade associations (UNICONGO and UNIBOIS) in responsible forest management, and more specifically in the APV-FLEGT process. Indeed, by collaborating with trade associations and forestry companies, ATIBT strengthens forest governance, promotes sustainable practices and improves forest legality and traceability. Its commitment is firm: to demonstrate the concrete involvement of the private forestry sector in the preservation of Congo's forests.

In addition to capacity-building, ATIBT and the forestry-wood industry's professional associations are committed to raising awareness of crucial issues such as forest carbon, EU RD, CITES, climate change and sustainable development, while supporting local development.

This initiative aims to enlighten and raise awareness among key players and the general public of the importance of preserving tropical forests, while promoting lesser-known tropical species, often overlooked on the international market but essential for biodiversity. ATIBT aims to bring about a change in perception, by showing that forestry companies, far from stereotypes, are committed to a responsible approach. It is crucial to raise awareness of the importance of preserving these unique ecosystems for future generations, while promoting a better understanding of the ecological and economic issues involved in sustainable forest management.
