From October 9 to 13, the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) General Assembly was held in Vancouver, Canada, of which ATIBT and some of its members are members. Replicating every 3 years, this General Assembly brought together more than 700 people from different forest regions of the world. The last one was held in Seville in 2014, where motion 65 on IFLs (Intact Forest Landscapes) was passed. Its implementation could have endangered the FSC certified companies in the Congo Basin.
Therefore, ATIBT has submitted 3 motions and carried out a communication campaign upstream of the event, and went to Vancouver with its certified member forest companies, operating mainly in the Congo Basin, and exemplary in forest management, in order to discuss this subject with the different chambers (social, economic, environmental) and the different stakeholders involved, including representatives of environmental NGOs like Greenpeace and WWF, and the different forest basins (Canada, Indonesia, Russia and Latin America in particular).
On the last day, these discussions led to the adoption of motion 34 calling for regional assessments of impacts (social, environmental and economic) related to the implementation of motion 65.
