On September 27, 2023, Philippe Denavit was elected President of France Bois Industries Entreprises (FBIE) at a meeting of the Board of Directors of this national interprofession, which federates the downstream professional organizations of the timber industry. He succeeds Frédéric Carteret, who remains Chairman of the Union des industriels et constructeurs bois (UICB). Philippe Denavit is Chairman of the Malvaux Group, which specializes in wood and wood by-products solutions for retail, interior and exterior fittings. He is a member of the Union des industries du panneau contreplaqué (UIPC), chairman of the "Contract agencement" group of Ameublement français since 2018 and director of Ameublement français, representative of the furniture industries on the Conseil supérieur de la forêt et du bois (CSFB) since 2021, director of LCB and director of Codifab since 2021. Jean-Michel Martin, Confederal President of the Capeb and head of LMB Martin Frères (wood joinery and eco-construction), was also elected Vice-Chairman of FBIE.
"Philippe Denavit's mission will be twofold: to contribute to the optimal organization of the wood industry, and to better represent the interests of the downstream sector," writes FBIE in the text announcing the election of its new president. Under these conditions, it is likely that the project to create a single national interprofession, currently under discussion within the forestry-wood industry, will be one of the new FBIE president's top priorities. "The first objective has already been undertaken in consultation with upstream players in the wood industry, through a study commissioned from a consultancy firm to gather the positions of each of the industry's organizations on the very principle of rapprochement, and to consider the most appropriate options for strengthening the industry's appeal and effectiveness in the light of the major challenges it faces", continues FBIE. "The consultation phase with interested organizations is now open, and we are mobilizing our members to build the contribution of the downstream part of the industry to this joint exercise by the end of the year. FBIE represents the interests of wood raw material users, industrial and craft producers of wood-based products, and their contractors. The expertise of our members, both on the domestic and export markets, is therefore essential to the most relevant and effective organization of the wood industry's interests."
