The wooden sleeper supported by SNCF

At the heart of innovation and in the service of carbon neutrality, SNCF teams were awarded at the recent InnoTrans fair for the "Sleeper Green" project as part of the UIC Sustainability Impact Awards from the International Union of Railways (#UICrail).

In line with their environmental goals, they have redesigned the treatment process for wooden sleepers at their Bretenoux plant. Based on a new process using copper oils, they are sustainably preserving the use of French oak, an iconic bioresource for railway infrastructure.

After 10 years of research and successful testing, full implementation is planned for 2025. This is a concrete step towards a virtuous and environmentally respectful industrial model.
