As part of the ASP Green Deal project to support the private sector,a communication training session was held at SYNEFOR headquarters in Yaoundé, followed by a study of each participant's practical case.
Conceived and organized by Nathalie Bouville, ATIBT communications manager, and Bertrand Faucon, director of Stratemark and ATIBT member, the workshop aimed to provide participants with the foundations for building a high-performance communications strategy tailored to their sector of activity and the resources at their disposal.
The day-long workshop began with a presentation on the challenges of communication:
- Why is it necessary to communicate?
- Who are my targets?
- What messages should I put across?
- How do I communicate?
- Who does what?
- How can I evaluate my communication actions?
Bertrand Faucon then detailed the fundamental tools to be deployed in a communication plan, specifically for Cameroonian forestry companies committed to sustainable management:
- Corporate identity
- Basic media
- Internet presence
- Industry networks
- Regular meetings
Finally, Dieudonné Nana, a communications consultant based in Cameroon, led a round-table discussion during which each participant presented his or her operations, objectives and how they would benefit from this training to improve their company's communications.
"Communication is a strategic lever that is still under-utilized in the forestry sector. The stakes are both commercial and reputational. With better control of your image and messages, your companies can gain in profitability, legitimacy, visibility and influence.
Of course, forestry companies communicate on an individual basis, but everyone needs to understand the importance of a collective approach in parallel, in order to promote your industry's environmental, social and economic commitments.
To this end, the ATIBT supports you through the Fair&Precious program, which provides you with the arguments and tools to promote your best practices.
- Bertrand Faucon, ATIBT
The workshop took place in a participative and convivial atmosphere, encouraging exchanges of experience and awareness of the importance of better structuring communication in the forestry sector.
After a phase of appropriation, the participants - from DINO & FILS S.A, Pallisco-CIFM, ALPICAM-GRUNCAM and GFBC - plan to meet again in a few months, to make an initial assessment of the actions implemented.
