Renewal of the collaboration agreement between COMIFAC and ATIBT in Douala

The collaboration agreement between the COMIFAC Executive Secretariat (S.E) and the ATIBT marks the willingness of both parties to continue to cooperate on all issues related to the conservation and sustainable forest management of the Congo Basin forest ecosystems and climate change. The agreement was signed in Cameroon on 14 January 2025.

The agreement establishes the framework for collaboration between SE-COMIFAC and ATIBT for the implementation of the sub-regional Convergence Plan for the conservation and sustainable management of Central African forest ecosystems. It determines the terms and conditions of the actions that the parties will carry out in collaboration to achieve their common objectives and defines the areas of collaboration as well as the general conditions governing this collaboration.

The SE-COMIFAC and the ATIBT will collaborate in the implementation of the Convergence Plan, in particular priority intervention axes 1, 2 and 6, dedicated respectively to the harmonisation of forestry and environmental policies, the management and sustainable development of forest resources and financing, as well as transversal axis 2 dedicated to research and development.

Particular emphasis will be placed on : 

- implementation of international agreements and conventions ;

- exchanges of data and information on forest management;

- promotion and development of forest resources: timber, wildlife, NTFPs, tourism; - conservation of biodiversity in forest concessions;

- development of environmental services;

- forest legality and certification;

- supporting countries and companies in implementing CITES, EU RD and other regional or multilateral mechanisms;

- climate change.
