This year, the « tropical forestry » specialization module offered by Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech took place in Gabon. Teachers from the North and South have combined their efforts to provide outstanding training in the heart of the most beautiful forests in Africa.
As in previous years, the strengths were the exchange of experiences and confrontations of points of view. The ultimate goal: understanding multifunctional forest management by integrating industrial constraints, the participation of local communities and the preservation of the environment.
The students of three masters of Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech and the University of Sciences and Techniques Masuku (USTM, Franceville) were concerned. Staff from CEB – Precious Woods, which hosted much of the training, also participated. In all this represented about thirty participants.
The main topics covered were: forest management, low impact logging, forest dynamics, tree recognition and agroforestry. The students also had the opportunity to implement projects directly useful to the company hosting the training.
Three quarters of costs were covered by ULiège and sponsors : Nature + asbl, EXOTT, Precious Forest Foundation.
