FRM is a private and independent forest engineering firm based in Montpellier in the South of France. FRM assists actors in the forest and timber sectors in Europe and internationally. To advance the cause of tropical forests, FRM favours proximity to the field, scientific rigour, pragmatism, training and dialogue. Its forest engineers have been working for 25 years in the service of the planet's tropical forest ecosystems. In the field, we work for a better understanding and a reasoned and sustainable management of natural and forest resources in contact with populations, economic operators and local authorities. The missions carried out by our experts on a short-term basis or within the framework of multi-year projects benefit from the most recent technologies and are based on the latest advances in scientific research. The objectives are to gain a better understanding of forest ecosystems in order to optimise their management; ensure the maintenance of their social and ecological functions; contribute to the fair redistribution of the products generated; protect biodiversity; enable selective and sustainable timber harvesting; reduce the negative impacts on ecosystems; encourage the use of by-products and waste from forest exploitation for energy purposes; and build on the prospects offered by biomass and forest carbon. To date, FRM has supported stakeholders in the sustainable management of tropical rainforests in the development and sustainable management of more than 20 million hectares of natural forest, representing more than 10% of the total rainforest area of the Congo Basin.
