At the end of August 2022, the Presidency of the Republic of Cameroon issued a circular providing for an increase in public procurement for wood products manufactured in Cameroon.
This circular (August 23, 2022), drafted during a session to prepare the 2023 budget, prescribes the acquisition in the context of public procurement of wooden furniture produced firstly locally.
It specifies that the Cameroonian government will work to "direct public procurement of goods and services towards local production, particularly in the "wood" sector, through the acquisition of a significant share of the furniture equipment of public administrations from locally produced entities".
The promotion of sustainable wood should be a priority.
This commitment to increase the share of wood products produced in Cameroon is in line with the decision taken by the CEMAC countries to ban log exports on January 1, 2023, in order to promote the development of local processing activities.
