As part of the implementation of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), the European Commission has recently developed two additional applications for the Application Programming Interface (API). These tools aim to facilitate the management and modification of due diligence declarations by users.
As mentioned in our recent newsletter on the progress of the information system, the European Commission is currently testing these APIs. The new API applications released a few days ago allow users to modify or withdraw a due diligence declaration directly via the API. This feature is particularly useful for large operators dealing with a large number of products and suppliers. Thanks to a machine-to-machine connection to the Registry (information system), operators can now manage their declarations in bulk, thus simplifying the compliance process.
The European Commission has announced that compliance testing for these two new applications can now be carried out. However, it is important to note that these tests are not mandatory to connect to the production environment. Users can thus start using the new applications without waiting for the completion of the tests.
Detailed technical specifications for the new API applications are attached to this communication and are also available on the Europa website. It is crucial for users to regularly consult these specifications, as they may be subject to updates. To obtain the latest versions of the technical specifications, please follow this link.
With the development of these new API applications, the European Commission aims to facilitate the management of due diligence declarations. However, according to feedback from testing companies we have spoken to, the use of these interfaces remains very limited and requires significant IT resources.
For reference, here is the projected deployment schedule of the information system:
