First LCB and ATIBT RDUE workshop: Clarifying the roles of the players

28.03.2025

On 13 March, LCB and ATIBT brought together players in the timber industry for an interactive workshop focusing on the roles and responsibilities involved in implementing the European Regulation against Deforestation (EUDR). Through concrete discussions and a structured presentation, this event provided answers to the many questions on traceability, Declarations of Due Diligence, and upcoming regulatory deadlines.

ATIBT and LCB have launched a series of webinars on the EUDR to help operators achieve compliance. On Thursday 13 March, LCB and ATIBT organised a workshop dedicated to the roles of stakeholders in implementing the European Regulation against Deforestation (EUDR). Hosted by Caroline Duhesme (ATIBT) and Alessandra Negri (LCB), this interactive session brought together around sixty participants from the timber sector, who came to learn about and discuss the forthcoming obligations. You will find here the link of the presentation in French and the link of the replay of the workshop (in French).

The next RDUE workshop will be held on 8 April 2025 and will focus on the EC's Information System (IS) and on Due Diligence Declarations (DDR).

An interactive workshop to clarify responsibilities

The aim of this workshop was to answer the many questions posed by operators and retailers concerning their obligations in terms of traceability and due diligence. A number of topics were addressed, including

  • The timetable for implementation of the EUDR, set at 30 December 2025 for medium-sized and large businesses, and 30 June 2026 for micro and small businesses.
  • The categorisation of companies, with different obligations for SMEs and non-SMEs.
  • The obligation for operators to draw up a complete Declaration of Due Diligence (DDD), including geolocation points.
  • The possibility of using an agent to carry out DDD on behalf of non-SME traders and opertors.
  • The role of operators and traders in transmitting and keeping DDD references.

We will shortly be publishing a new version of the EUDR FAQ incorporating all the answers to the new questions raised at this workshop.

The workshop also highlighted the importance of raising certain concerns with the Ministry for Ecological Transition.

Official publications of the European Commission

The European Commission has published a new brochure in English, setting out several scenarios for implementing the EUDR by sector. This document complements the FAQ and the orientation guide published in October 2024, which are available in French. These documents are due to be updated this spring.

TRACES information system

The companies concerned can register now on the TRACES system and test the registration of DDDs via the ACCEPTANCE server. From 30 December 2025, all declarations will have to be formally entered on the LIVE .server

To facilitate this transition, the European Commission is proposing :

If you have any technical questions about TRACES, please contact : SANTE-TRACES@ec.europa.eu

Ranking of countries at risk

By the end of June 2025, the European Commission will publish a list of countries or parts of countries presenting a low or high risk of deforestation.
