As part of the MIB (Congo Domestic Timber Market Project), activities to promote the responsible wood sector in Congo got underway with participation in the “Mosala” Caravan in the towns of Ouesso and Pointe Noire, from November 04 to 08 and November 17 to 19 respectively.
The Government of the Republic of Congo has received financial support from the Agence française de développement (AFD) and the European Union (EU) to implement the “Mosala” project, which means “work” in Lingala, with the aim of strengthening the match between training and employment, improving the employability of young people, reducing gender inequalities and keeping them in decent jobs in the departments of Brazzaville, Pointe-Noire, Niari and Sangha.
The aim of the project is to contribute to the economic empowerment of young people in vulnerable situations with regard to the labor market, through the implementation of active employment-training policies with a gender perspective, and the improvement of the relevance of the training-integration system.
The project's target is the training and professional integration of 5,000 young people, 50% of whom are women, providing support for three (3) public employment services and proposing five (5) training programs linked to the sectors targeted by the National Development Plan (PND 2022-2026).
The employment and skills training caravan spent four weeks in the project's four target towns: Brazzaville, Ouesso, Dolisie and Pointe-Noire. The aim was to set up a mobile employment village.
The ATIBT was present in the caravan during the Ouesso and Pointe Noire stages, with a stand presenting jobs in the responsible wood sector. This was an opportunity to meet Congolese youth and inform them about training and employment opportunities in the wood harvesting and processing sector.
The caravan was also an opportunity to identify the main players in the national timber value chain. Working sessions were organized with these players to present the MIB project and gather their needs and expectations.
