We are delighted to announce an important milestone in the promotion of sustainable forest management in Africa: the recent certification of the IFO company in the Republic of Congo under the PAFC (Pan African Forest Certification) Congo Basin regional certification scheme.
IFO, a company involved in logging in the Republic of Congo, has been awarded sustainable forest management and chain of custody certification by Control Union.
This certification demonstrates IFO's commitment to responsible forestry practices, while contributing to the economic and social development of the Congo Basin region. By adhering to the rigorous standards of the PAFC certification scheme, IFO demonstrates its respect for the criteria of preserving biodiversity, protecting natural resources and promoting the well-being of local communities.
This certification is particularly important in the current context of growing concerns about deforestation and biodiversity loss. It provides a guarantee to consumers and stakeholders that forest products from IFO operations are managed in a responsible and environmentally sound manner. For the Congo Basin PAFC, IFO is also the first country in the sub-region to implement the standard, following on from CEB and BSO in Gabon.
It is important to remember that the PAFC Congo Basin, which is in force in Cameroon, Gabon and the Republic of Congo, is a scheme recognised by the PEFC Council, so companies certified to the PAFC standard will, like all PEFC-certified companies, have the PEFC label.
IFO's certification of sustainable forest management and chain of custody is a significant step towards promoting responsible practices in the forestry sector in the Republic of Congo and beyond. We are proud to welcome this commitment to sustainability and encourage other companies to follow suit.
